Preparing Your Computer for Blackboard

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Recent releases of Internet Explorer (specifically versions 10 & 11) have not been working well with Blackboard. We strongly recommend that you use Firefox, Chrome or Safari with Blackboard, especially when taking online quizzes and exams. If you don't have Firefox or Chrome here is a link where you can go to download and install them:

www.ninite.com

This site downloads the browsers and does not add any extra toolbars or search engines to your computer.

We also recommend that you do NOT use mobile devices (i.e., smart phones or tablets) to take exams in Blackboard. To avoid any technology glitches during exams we recommend you use a laptop or desktop computer that is hard wired to a high speed internet connection or network.

What is Blackboard?

Blackboard is a web-based learning environment that enables instructors to enhance on-campus learning and/or deliver distance learning by bringing their course materials, class discussions, assignments, and assessments (tests/quizzes) to the web. If you are enrolled in a Web-delivered course, Blackboard will be the primary tool you use to engage in online learning. Students enrolled in a Distance Education course that uses the interactive television equipment may or may not use Blackboard.

How do I login to Blackboard?

The URL for Blackboard is http://sulross.blackboard.com. (Please note: There’s no “www” in this address.) You will be asked to provide a username and a password to view your Blackboard courses. In order to log on to Blackboard the first time you must reset your password. Your username and password is the same as your SRSU email username and password.
